About the owner

Soul Frito was birthed from cultural experience. A dear friend from Guatemala and El Salvador would prepare a plethora of dishes with her mom to celebrate Christmas Eve. I watched them put several vegetables, herbs, and spices in a blender to make sofrito and use the mixture in all of their decadent dishes.
As a Black woman who has spent her entire life traveling the world, with ancestry in the West Indies and currently living in the DC area where many cultures converge, I’ve had the pleasure of experiencing cuisines from several cultures. Just like epis, green seasoning, and sofrito make every dish amazing, Soul Frito is the equivalent.

Whether a quick meal, family meal or gourmet meal, every meal should make your soul feel sweet. AND BAYBEEEE SOULFRITO DOES THAT!

"once you taste her food..."

Sweet Soul, which was once a dream, has completely transformed into a young woman’s heavenly reality. Aurelia Geddis, the owner of Sweet Soul, started her culinary journey during her childhood when her mom introduced her palates to a wide variety of flavors from different ethnic backgrounds. Aurelia’s parents were in the military, which in turn gave her the opportunity to travel many parts of the world, including numerous American states and European countries. With her during her life’s adventures, was her younger sister who she used as her taste-testing guinea pig.

“Ree’s Palace” was an in-home restaurant that was birthed from Aurelia creating a menu for her sister to order from during dinner time. Menu selections ranged from ramen noodles, PB&J, and Kool-Aid. Her passion continued to grow as she got older and she began the task of preparing dinner for the entire family while in middle school and high school.

In 2006, Aurelia graduated high school with the aspiration of attending one of the top culinary schools in the United States: Johnson & Wales University in North Carolina. With this dream came many obstacles, with finances being the greatest. Even though she was not able to make it to Johnson & Wales, she kept cooking. Her tasting critics grew from solely her sister, to her extended family members and co-workers.

In 2014, Aurelia stepped out on faith and started an online catering business that she operated mostly from Facebook through online orders and word of mouth. Her business continues to flourish every day. She has been hired to cater family functions, office events, weddings, high school proms, and church gatherings.

Once you taste her food, you will experience the manifestation of all the love she pours in each dish.
